The plates shown are Spode Billingsley Rose small side plates, part of one of Spode’s most enduring floral patterns. Billingsley Rose was produced by Spode from 1926 until 1989 and is now discontinued.
Named after William Billingsley—an influential English porcelain painter celebrated for his exceptional botanical work—the pattern reflects the elegance and refinement of early 20th-century English china. Each plate features a hand-painted pink rose with soft green foliage at the centre, framed by an intricate, lace-like border that lends the design its romantic, heirloom quality.
These plates were produced in fine bone china or earthenware and belong to Spode’s Jewel range. The backstamp confirms manufacture by Copeland Spode in England and includes a U.S. patent date of June 15, 1926. The presence of the “SPODE’S JEWEL” and “COPELAND” marks indicates an earlier backstamp style, typically associated with pieces made between the 1920s and 1940s.
A timeless pattern prized by collectors, Billingsley Rose remains a classic example of Spode’s craftsmanship and floral artistry.
